Fly Tying

Fly Fishers, hear ye, hear ye.........

After much deliberation and investigation, we've settled on Senyo's Wiggle Stone (fly) for this month's fun and frolic with flies! It promises to be fun to tie and productive to fish while introducing a technique that can be used to improve the effectiveness of many other flies.

In part, this decision arose from comments made by one of our esteemed members at our recent River Bug Day: "WOW, I had no idea there were so many stoneflies in these waters - I'm sure gonna try 'em next season!" - or words to that effect.

Fly Tying

This month's pattern will feature a couple of crayfish patterns. Bruce and Todd will lead the tying.
As usual, all of the necessary tying material will be provided for the usual toonie.

Doors open at 18:30.
Tying starts at 19:00.

Fly Tying

Greetings Fishers and Tyers........

Welcome to another season of "Fun with Flies." Todd and I have agreed to coordinate our OFS fly tying program again this year and you can be assured that we'll do our best to ensure that it's both fun and instructive. Like last year, we plan to have other club members put on the program from time to time and so don't be shy - if you have a favourite fly you'd like to share with other club members, just let one of us know. Similarly, if here is a fly you'd like us to feature - let us know.

Tying Instructor: Justin Osmand
Pattern: Bass/Pike Flies with weed guards

Justin will be demonstrating pike/bass flies with weed guards made of beadlon wire. This promises to be both timely and fun. Big flies like this are also easier to tie and thus great for people who are somewhat new to the vice.

Eager beavers should check out Jim Misiura's YouTube video called "Designing a Bass Fly"; that's the style and technique Justin will be demonstrating.

Fly Tying - Muddler Madness

This is your special invitation to an evening of Muddler Madness

According to Tom Rosenbauer, "Prior to the popularization of the Wooly Bugger, the Muddler Minnow probably accounted for more large trout caught on a fly in 20th century than any other pattern." There's no question, a selection of muddlers ought to be in every serious fisher's fly box.
